Three Little Boys and a Vaccination

Three of my grandsons live in London, this was their Christmas gift to me - a wonderful portrait of the three of them with my husband and myself, not forgetting Toby the dog.   Each and every item shown was chosen with care - my husband does a lot of gardening and it is alleged that I do a lot of dog walking and have occasional mad bursts of sewing and creating.   How well they know me!

The three boys have their favourite toys and activities scattered around them.   The boys are all recognisable, especially the dark haired one.   The picture is a delight, I will treasure it always, boys.

I hardly dare say it but the internet seems to be working well now.

It only took two visits and a new hub sent through the post.   I confess that I got pretty stressed by the two home visits, especially as one of the men needed to use the facilities.  In normal times this wouldn't be a problem but these are still not normal times.   I did an awful lot of cleaning and beaching afterwards.

Not having the usual easy access to the internet meant that I had to amuse myself in different ways.  Books, books, books, being my first choice, so all was not lost.    When I tired of books I got to work on a silk patchwork cover which has been three or four years in the making so far.  In between times, weather permitting, I walked Toby through sodden fields.

I hope you are all keeping well and happy during these unusual times.

My husband had his vaccination yesterday.   A sore arm is all he has to report today.

  1. It's good to see that more and more people are getting their vaccinations. The wonders of modern science and the determination of so many have made this new hope possible!

    1. It was quite a surprise to receive the call. Lincolnshire vaccinations seem to be rolling out at speed.

  2. Impressive portrait Elaine. It is wonderful, I can see a great deal of thought has gone into it;lots of personal details. I am sure you are going to treasure it :-) I so understand the stress of dealing with intruders entering our safe zone (home), painters and electrician provoked in me a frenzy of cleaning throughout my house a month ago. Poor Sr P ....I think he thought I had lost a screw :-) keep well Amanda x

    2. Oh dear, I hope you don't have to allow any more intruders into your home - it really is most unsettling, as well as joy hard work making the place safe again!

  3. It is so good to know that the vaccine is been rolled out and more and more are benefiting from it. Loved the portrait what a wonderful gift. I can understand the stress of having to let people into your home/safe zone!

    1. It is amazing how quickly it is all happening. My DiL in London has also had her vaccination, she is an NHS worker. How are they organising things on the island?

  4. Love the picture. Certainly something to treasure. You have a loving family.
Britain is doing well with vaccinations. We will have to wait months. Hope you get yours soon

    1. I am one or two tiers down the list so I have to wait a while longer. I hope you don't have to wait too long, Linda.

  5. Very nice present I must say, I treasure the ones my youngest son draws for me on my Birthday and Christmas he had become really good since he went to art collage. My wife refuses to let them use ours after the last experience we had with a delivery driver, I will say no more. You Husband must be a little older than you if he had the jab, I still have to wait for the call.

    1. He is in his early seventies, Billy. I am four years younger and therefore in a lower tier and have to wait. I hope you get the call before too long.

  6. I had a new BT hub 6 several months ago, before Covid so it must be quite a long time ago, maybe March, and I was scared about setting it up myself but it worked perfectly. A BT man had to do something at the exchange and told me I am at the end of the coverage of that particular exchange, but still nevermind, BT have always been helpful to me and at that point they gave me a credit for inconvenience that I didn't even ask for. The Christmas picture looks cool. Vaccinations seem to be going well around here with a new centre in Norwich and hopefully it will get to the most vulnerable first and then keep on going down through the different age group layers. The main problem here is that Norwich is the centre and a lot of elderly people are having to travel in from the sticks into the city although one doesn't know entirely what to believe because my retired doctor friend is helping out at a clinic in the countryside which she says is serving the communities well.

    1. Hi Rachel, You did well, nice to get the credit, too. We have had a bit of a honeymoon period with the new hub - great speeds, no disconnections ... until today. I have a horrible feeling of deja vu. A couple of weeks ago we were informed that our vaccination centre would be at Spilsby, about 10 miles away. It was a very efficient set up, lots of parking, a big burly chap on the door checking people off the list and then lots of efficiency once inside. It is a hub for lots of rural GP surgeries.

  7. That is a wonderful picture!
I read of vaccinations coming off like clockwork among my English blogging friends. Not the same over here, but hopefully that will change.

    1. Hi Joanne, I really hope that you are offered your vaccination soon. The picture is a digital one but really full of little details which speak of my grandsons!

  8. What a lovely - and thoughtful - picture. One to treasure, that's for sure. My husband had his vaccination on Monday - though he had to go back to Carmarthen for it as we are now moved to Builth (thank Heavens!) It is LOVELY here.

Sorry you were so stressed overthe workmen being in the house. We were overwhelmed by the removal men - 3 days' packing and then 3 days carrying stuff into the new house - no room was safe and the sanctuary of our old home thoroughly destroyed by the process (not to mention all the trades people employed by the buyer to check the house out in every respect - THREE surveys for Heaven's sake!) I just had to put my faith in the Almighty or the Universe or whatever to protect us - that and Dettox. Our hands were raw from washing and now like sandpaper.

    1. You have worked so hard over the last few months, BB. I know you have a lot of work ahead of you with the unpacking, etc - but console yourself with the thought that you won't need to do any spring cleaning this year. ;) I wish you much happiness there and look forward to learning about your new walks and local area, too.

  9. What a really great picture! Very talented grandsons, to be sure. I've put in a call to set up an appointment for our vaccinations. Just waiting now. LOL But I feel like I'm one step closer to actually getting the shot! We're just a bit slow on this side of the pond!
