Double Bed? Single Bed?
When I sat down to write this post it was supposed to be about life in one Lincolnshire village. Tomorrow, perhaps. My thoughts have been hijacked by Millie.
The cats have taken the new laws and regulations to heart.
Normally they would be out and about, hunting, sunbathing, persecuting birds, mice, rats and rabbits.
Instead they are spending most of their time sleeping indoors.
Sometimes they curl up together for an hour or two, but that always ends in tears.
Millie, the small ginger cat, has decided to take up social distancing.
For the last few days she has ignored all her usual beds, cushions, and rugs. This tiny basket has become her favourite retreat.
Talking of beds, the vegetable beds have been dug over now, including the two which were going to be removed this year. I have decided that this is not the year to cut down on growing food! The polytunnel is ready for action, the small greenhouse cleaned out.
Time for a rest.
Are you managing to keep busy and motivated?
Stay safe everyone.

Very law abiding cats. I am impressed.
ReplyDeleteI noticed a day or two ago that your blog has changed its name - any reason?
Over the last decade, or so, I have had lots of blogs. If you look at the header photograph you can see the name of my very first blog - Pear Tree Log. I wrote that one to keep in touch with my son when he went over to China to begin work. Since then I have dabbled around with seven or eight other blogs, some long-running ones, others fairly short-lived, even a word press one. The name may well revert to TfPC, when I can be bothered to fiddle around again!
DeleteMillie-in-a-basket. Delightful.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking we need a larger garden too. Shall try harder to get a decent amount of amount of tomatoes, peppers and courgettes this year. We certainly get enough sun.
I think you will be harvesting a bumper crop compared to us, we have already lost a few plants. I also plan to make the most of Dandelion green, at least I can be assured of a decent crop of those, main problem will be to keep the dog away from them!
DeleteCats are weird - that looks so uncomfortable but obviously isn't.
ReplyDeleteShe is in the basket now, Sue. Squashed, but happy, in her elevated position.
DeleteWell we have now got two new raised beds to fill with soil & compost though I am having to move very carefully because my back went again yesterday. My dear wife cleared the place the first is going but then she is the one to thank for the garden, I just provide the grunt. If you check my post Tuesday you can see our efforts, next week I will show the new bed. At least we have the garden to escape to
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your back, Billy. I hope that by now it is settling down. If our internet connection holds for a while I will check out your post soon - it seems to be struggling at the moment, no doubt it is getting heavily used throughout the area. Thank goodness for gardens!
DeleteWell, our cats have now decided it's warm enough to Go Out and have voted with their feet! It's lovely to have them out enjoying the sunshine and "helping" us as we garden.
ReplyDeleteToday I did some hand quilting, planted a home-grown Damson tree, reclaimed a Montana Rubens clematis from the top of our apple tree - now stretched along a cut back hedge I wanted to cover, watered seeds, gone for a walk, done some reading, and seen middle daughter who was suitably distanced but bearing groceries . . .
You are keeping busy! Brilliant. I am really glad that you are managing to see your family, those photographs from the other day were lovely.
DeleteSpending time here gardening, dog walking (very early in the morning while the fields are empty) and cleaning, doing all those horrible jobs which I have been putting off, including washing dog/cat blankets, chair covers, etc. Must admit that I have had enough of that, but at least it has been good drying weather!
My cat has been making the most of our recent good weather, spending much of her time in the garden and in the field behind the house. No doubt I will see a succession of unwelcome visitors before long. 🐀
ReplyDeleteHello Jules, Bodies on the patio or live offerings of love? Mmmn, perhaps I should be glad that they are being lazy, the hunting will start to happen before long, then I will need to be vigilant, last thing we need is a family of mice in the pantry!
DeleteAnimals always seem to prefer beds or baskets that are a size too small for them! Easy to stay occupied at home in the garden with this lovely weather.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Sue. Normally one sleeps in an antique wooden bowl and the other one took possession of my basket weave trug. They also sleep on any chair/sofa they fancy, the hearth rugs, and every now and then they take a nap in Toby's conservatory bed. Cats!
DeleteCats, if we could read their minds I wonder what we would find there. Love that picture of Millie in her basket, would love to know why she chooses to sleep there.
ReplyDeleteThe basket is on top of a cupboard, so an elevated position by the kitchen window. She spends hours squished into it. I think she likes it because old Sparky isn't able to jump so high these days. Superiority. Poor old Sparky taught Millie almost everything she knows. Nowadays they bicker quite a lot.
DeleteWhat offense did one cat do to the other than makes them keep their distance?
ReplyDeleteI totally missed you'd changed your blog name because on my blog list it's still the same.
Keeping busy with card making, editing the April newsletter for our community, and reading. Plan to get back to genealogy and signed up again for Ancestry.com but haven't opened that up yet. There's time and lots of it.
It is vital to keep our minds occupied with things other than the dire situation and all that goes with it, and it sounds as though you have plenty of things to keep your mind active, Marcia.
DeleteAs to the cats - we have had Sparky for many years, Millie for three or four; someone found her as a young stray, took her in but couldn't fit her into their way of life, so they asked me to take her. Sparky mothered her and taught her to climb trees, hunt mice, moles and birds. These days Sparky is getting older and stiffer and I think Millie is flexing her muscles, trying to be queen of the cats, so they squabble.
Millie made me laugh out loud.
ReplyDeleteMillie is very cute and very mischievous. She still crams herself into that tiny basket for hours at a time. Funny thing is that I only put it on the cupboard so that I could take it down the hallway next time I went to the dressing room - and you know the rest!
DeleteLove Millie in her basket. Keep safe all of you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan Heather. I hope you and Doug are staying safe and happy.
DeleteJust catching up whilst I have internet connection which is very patchy these days. Such an uplifting post, take care.
ReplyDeleteHello mamasmercantile. I completely understand about patchy internet, we have a similar problem here, especially today when the wind is blowing so hard and the overhead telephone lines are catching in trees (not ours). I know that you will have plenty to keep you occupied, you are the master of so many beautiful hobbies and projects. Be safe, stay busy.
DeleteOurs find the weirdest places to squeeze into, I found our distancing too yesterday, one in the bedroom, one the kitchen, another in the dining room and the rest either curled up in front of the fire or hogging the sofa, gotta love them! take care xcx
ReplyDeleteHello Chrissie, They are very creative and opportunistic. There is very little chance of them spending much time outside today, there is a very cold wind blowing with occasional snow flurries. Stay safe and well.x
DeleteLovely post, Elaine! I think my cat has been in training for ‘Stay at Home’ for ages, haha. I’ve got plenty to do here, what with our garden, raised beds and hobbies. I’ve also got plenty of ideas for my hubby and son too! Keep safe xx
ReplyDeleteHello Ann, That's the spirit, keep 'em at it! One hobby I am trying to discourage the cats from is bird watching. Doomed to disappointment, I know. The bird boxes nearest the house all have residents now, which means lots of coming and going; the cats have noted it but haven't tried doing anything yet. Millie is the naughtiest for catching birds, Sparky likes the idea, but prefers rats, mice, voles and moles. Stay safe and well.x
DeleteThe cats are so cute. My two would not lay together like that for very long. Every once in a while they will but it's rare. It could be because the youngest isn't quite a year old yet and still likes to 'play' with his older brother. Older brother just wants to nap. So it goes. And agreed that this is definitely not the year to cut back on the garden!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great photo of Millie. xo
