Where Did You Get Those Peepers?

Max and I spent a morning working down at Miles and Poppy's cottage.   Only the cat, Boy, was there.      I was fixing the lining to some curtains and had spread the fabric out.

Boy, being a typical cat, immediately plonked himself on top, all the better to supervise.

He has such a pretty little nose and very beautiful eyes, he is also bilingual.

His first language is Mandarin, but he is pretty fluent in English these days.

Meanwhile, my own girls were back at home, doing what they do best on a wet and miserable day...

..relaxing by the Rayburn.

They haven't met their cousin from Shanghai, which is just as well because they would lead him astray, introduce him to the world of hunting and staying out late.

Get back to sleep you two.

  1. What a pretty cat! But did you photoshop his eyes?
I love your less Oriental moggies, too!

    1. Hello Margaret, Boy was rescued from a truly miserable life, in a Shanghai pet shop, by my son and his wife. When they decided to relocate, he came with them. He is a very vocal, charming, fluff-ball.
My two are little ruffians, but I love them.

    2. But Boy's eyes are different on each photo - did you photoshop them, or what? Don't say he had coloured contact lenses, har, har!

    1. Hello Dom, As you can see, "Miss Pinkerton" is well and truly at home although Coco has taught her far too many dark arts!
Miss Pinkerton follows me around the wood for walks and loves to chase the dog's ball, in competition with him. She is a delight.x

  3. Green eyes?? Blue eyes?? How strange. I think I prefer the 'ordinary' twosome, even if they do have bad habits!

    1. Hello Rambler, I was just having a little fun with 'Pic Monkey'.
The black and white one was just a hissing and spitting cardboard box when we got her! It took a lot of patience to calm her as she had lived a feral life; she still runs away if she sees a stranger. The pale ginger came turned up in a neighbouring village. She won the heart of some friends there, but it was impossible for them to keep her, so she came to us. It worked well, once the other animals had accepted her.

    3. Sorry, Margaret! When I was answering comments, I was also having to deal with a number of interruptions - resulting in a lost thread! His beautiful eyes are yellowish but I decided to have a little fun and change the colour using a special effect. No contact lenses required, no cats were harmed!

    1. Hello Deb, He is a very handsome cat, you can see his true eye colour in the second photograph. I was just having fun changing them, it beat doing housework, anyway! My girls issue commands and demands, usually concerning doors or food, whereas Boy likes to talk, and then talk some more. Show him the grooming brushes and he is delighted, talk changes to purrs.

  5. 'Boy' is a handsome looking cat!

But yes, what color are his eyes??? They look different, in different photos. :-)

Oh no, don't let the "locals," lead 'Boy' astray!!! -grin-

    1. Hello Luna,
My girls are bad girls, with bells on. They need to be, out here in the country. The younger one, once smuggled a live mouse in with her - that caused mayhem for a couple of months. I swear they had decided to keep it as a pet, because they didn't catch it. We eventually managed to get it in a humane trap and release it elsewhere. It had taken up residence in my pantry. They received a very stern lecture over that incident. (His true eye colour is shown in the second photograph.)

    1. Hello Lilly's Mom, Cats are very good linguists! Mandarin and Russian, two very useful languages. Our son spent five years living and working in Shanghai, where he met and married his wonderful wife, Poppy. When they lived over there they spoke mostly in Mandarin. Now that they have relocated he has had to learn English. He's smart, and I bet Lilly is too. Lovely to meet you.

  7. I was wondering why your were repeating the same photo several times, then I caught sight of the eyes. Startling. Any of those colors would have fit his face.

My daughter is a cat lover but has no cat now. She could talk to hers in cat language. Maybe that's how she learned Chinese so easily.

    1. Hello Marcia, He is a sweet and handsome cat.

Clever daughter! It's such a difficult language to master, but I love the thought that learning cat language could pave the way to learning Chinese. Perhaps you have something there.

  8. They're all so beautiful!! Your two fur babies would get along quite well with my three. They love to stay out late and hunt. I never know what I'm going to find on my front porch in the morning. Ugghh!! Happy Mothers' Day to you!! xo

    1. Hello Wendy,
That is the downside of having hunters! There are some mornings when the patio resembles a butcher's shop. Miss Pinkerton doesn't eat any of the kill, but Coco picks and chooses her favourite cuts...Grim!
Thank you for the greetings, they are very much appreciated!x

  10. I adopted a stray cat several years ago that insists on going out mousing every night--even when it's below zero. Thankfully he doesn't bring home birds but he's excellent getting at small mammals. In the morning when I let him in the patio door, there will usually be the remains of some unfortunate rodent there to clean up. I don't see any way to mend his predatory ways!

    1. Hello Janice, Neither do I. They are just doing what they are programmed to do, I just wish they wouldn't bring their victims home! Have you been enjoying Ian's n/b adventures? They (my brothers) made a great job of doing up The Cardinal. What a change from his rambles along these Lincolnshire lanes.
