A few weeks ago I wrote a blog post about why I don't like wearing hats...
This was me this morning. The road was icy and the wind was even icier. So cold that I put on one of my hats when I went to walk Toby!
This afternoon is even colder, but the sun is shining. It has been a beautiful, bitterly cold winter's day. A nice change from dull and grey.
My feet were clad in these - special ice and snow boots - vital equipment if I am not to fall over on the icy roads!
Needless to say, this afternoon has been spent in Cosy Corner, working on a couple of projects.
It feels like the height of laziness, but I am just going to have to live with that feeling.
I'm not budging - apart from cooking tea for the grands, of course.
I hope you are warm and toasty - or cool and comfortable - depending on which part of the world you live!
Found in the garden today. |
It's bitterly cold here today and is supposed to be even more so tomorrow. Cosy Corner is a good place to stay. X
ReplyDeleteIt has been a really cosy and productive afternoon, Jules. I hope you are warm and cosy, too!
DeleteHello, hello. What are you knitting with narrow rag strips. What is the brand of your boots. Answers urgently requested. Keep warm.
ReplyDeleteHello Joanne, I am using up some of the remnants from my sewing room - cut into strips, then knitted to make a rag rug, I hope!
DeleteI bought the boots about eight or nine years ago, when I knew I was going to be spending a month in Iceland. I was both thrilled and terrified at the prospect. As you know, I have terrible balance and can slip and slide on nothing, never mind all the snow and ice on the glaciers. These boots are made by Hi-Tec, St Moritz 200 waterproof winter boots, they are still available, so I guess that says they do work. They are extremely cosy and have kept me on my feet so far - fingers crossed!!
Squares to sew together? I'm off to look up the boots.
DeleteThose boots look serious, bet they are lovely and warm.
ReplyDeleteBitter cold here too.

They keep my feet warm and toasty. Stay warm Briony.
Deletex
Freezing cold wind here today, I daren't venture out even just for a minute without a hat or i get humming in the ears.
ReplyDeleteYour boots look good for walking on ice
Another cold one today, Sue, the ground was crackling with ice, ponds frozen over. There comes a time when even I have to admit defeat and pull on a hat!
DeleteIt was freezing here in Greenock today too! Hope you enjoyed your crafting time.
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful, my projects grew quite nicely! I hope you are warm and snug inside.
DeleteIt's been a beautiful day hasn't it? I didn't venture outside but Paul and Rick have been working in the garden all day. I want your boots.
ReplyDeleteI always feel a bit like a viking/wally when I wear them, but they are wonderfully warm and make me a bit safer on my feet.
DeleteI like your choice of staying in and doing projects in Cozy Corner, after your walk in the cold outdoors. Those boots sound like they keep you from falling, good boots!
ReplyDeleteThose boots have been worth every penny! Once I relaxed into it, the crafting afternoon was great fun and very productive, just took me a while to stop feeling guilty.
DeleteMy wife said it was raining when we got up this morning I looked through the bathroom rooflite and saw it was, after I got out of the bath I looked and thought the rain was a bit thick (snow). Went downstairs and my wife came up to me and said she wondered why the do came in white and realised ithad been snowing. Later I went for a walk around a local village to get a few photos for a future blog and found it bitter out there. Not a day I would want to walk any distance
ReplyDeleteI shall look forward to those photographs, Bill. Snow magically transforms and beautifies places, even those places which are very familiar to us. I hope you are warm and cosy today.
DeleteColder here than of late, but not bitterly cold, and we did have sunshine, which was lovely. I got out for a walk with gloves, jacket and fleece hat on, but shed the hat and gloves on the way back and opened my jacket as I had warmed up nicely. I was wearing trainers but as we live on a hill, when it gets really icy, we stay put!
ReplyDeleteI think Cosy Corner this afternoon was a very good move.
I would be marooned on a hill, BB! I am not bad at scrambling up, coming back down terrifies me - I even took a different route home today so that I wouldn't have to walk down an icy hill. I know my limitations, even with the boots.
DeleteI hope you are managing to get plenty of work done on your beautiful quilts.
What a treat that must be to find a flower in your garden. It is bitterly cold here and getting worse over-night. I'm just heading out to fill feeders, feed crows and a little something for our nightly raccoons. Poor wild-life...it's the pits. Unfortunately I am too old to wish for spring. Best enjoy each day. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe wild creatures around your place are the fortunate ones, Deb. You winters are so tough on them all. We do what we can around here - the place feels like an airport at times, so many birds dropping in and taking off!
DeleteFinding the rose was a wonderful surprise.
Cosy corner...oh roll on Sunday! x
ReplyDeleteMay your Sunday be as cosy as can be!
DeleteMy UK Instagrams keep me well informed, and I know it's being mighty cold over there. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd... "The Romance" is back on, and the "Lad in Lincoln", is meeting our oldest grand daughter, in Iceland, this weekend. -chuckle- Iceland! End of Feb. they are meeting in Prague. Taking advantage of the time he has left, in Lincoln, before coming home, in the spring/summer.
Long story but, he flew back to see her, and they did a LOT of talking. And with new "rules" of communication, they are back on. We worry, but she is well grown, and has always had a level head on her shoulders. So we wish them well.
Your planned activities for the rest of the day, sound perfect!!! After all, Deep Winter is Nature's time of Hibernation. Why would we argue with Nature? :-)
✨✨✨✨
Goodness! Well, I guess that if things are meant to be they will work it out in their own way. Iceland is wonderful, I hope they get to do and see as many wonderful sights as possible - and in Iceland you are spoilt for choice. It is incredibly beautiful, a kind of raw beauty. I fell in love with the place, but I was glad I had my boots!!
DeleteHave a lovely weekend.
It has been rather raw here in florida… jackets and long pants with very little time out door because of the cold wind. Sunny and hopefully warmer by the weekend. I rather like the boots, especially if you are tracking on ice...yikes!
ReplyDeleteThat must be a shock to the system! I hope the warmer weather has set in for you so that you can happily spend time outdoors...without needing to use snow and ice boots!
DeleteCold here too in West Yorkshire but I did manage to put washing out to dry still - it was a little stiff when it came in but smells gorgeous now it is thawed and dry.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite smells! I hope you are warm and cosy this evening.
DeleteIt's even freezing cold in the Midlands. At this time of year I am thankful that I don't need to go out. Even the cat thinks twice about going out at night.
ReplyDeleteLike the boots, by the way. Seeing them made me reflect on my hiking days.
My girls are just as bad, Valerie. They are very happy to snooze away most of the day - in prime position in front of the fire. The older cat refuses to pay a late visit outside, she prefers to nip out very early in the morning! I hope you are snug and warm this evening!
DeleteOh my, a rose in January!! You certainly need a warm hat and scarf out there today. I'm busy knitting and baking. It's great to have the oven on when it's cold outside. Enjoy your weekend Elaine :)
ReplyDeleteKnitting and baking sounds perfect, Prunella. I hope you have a warm and cosy weekend. The rose was a very pleasant surprise - we have one other variety which is also has a bloom, poor things will not be enjoying this cold spell!
DeleteI like your hat and boots. I may need to dig out a hat and boots for this coming Monday. The temperature is supposed to drop to 17 degrees Sunday night. Unusual for here in North Carolina. The cold is a little easier to take if the sun is shining. Love the pretty pink rose.
ReplyDeleteYou would definitely have needed a hat and boots here, today, Henny. The air was very cold, ice underfoot, but the sun was shining and the sky was that brilliant blue which comes on a cold day, come to that, it would have been nice to have you along on the walk. Have a lovely weekend.
DeleteThe best part of cold weather is the cozy, nesting you do inside the house! I can't believe you have a rose in that weather! And such a beautiful rose. What are you knitting?
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, My knitting is very basic, nothing nearly as complicated as the things you make!! I am knitting a rag rug - with strips of fabric, for some crazy reason. It is about my skill level, nothing complicated at all, not heels to turn, or cuffs to be knitted! I hope you manage to find the time to be cosy this weekend.
