Buckets, Spades and Rhubarb.

The milder weather, with occasional glimpses of sunshine have really lifted my spirits and energised me.    Suddenly I have become aware of the signs of spring.

Beautiful catkins.

Drifts of snowdrops near the fairy door in the garden.

The first stalks of rhubarb.

Sunshine, shadows, and snowdrops in our little Owl Wood

and this glorious mass of fungi on an old tree stump.

It has been lovely.

Not quite ...

...bucket and spade weather, but very nice after a winter of gloom and heavy cloud.

This is the jolly fisherman statue at Skegness railway station.

He always makes me smile.

I think someone was having a bit of a laugh when they set him off in the direction of Iceland...

Have a lovely weekend.   We have family coming to stay for the weekend.   Very exciting!

Love the fisherman. At first I thought he was one of the seven dwarfs!

    1. You are right, Linda. It really doesn't take much to make me happy, but a little sunshine and a blue sky certainly help to chase away the dull grey and murky.
I can see what you mean about the fisherman!

  3. I have rhubarb envy! We will be planting some as soon as we move - the first fresh thing of the year and pink and lovely when forced.

    1. Hello Sue, The rhubarb forcer went back on after the photo call! This crown has always done well, I think it may have something to do with location which is not too far from the septic tank. It was there before we bought the place and always produced great rhubarb. We don't normally tell people. ;0

  4. Fairy door in the garden? I wonder if that is there the tooth fairy lives who used to leave money under my pillow! If you see her, please thank her from me!
Oh, I love rhubarb, too. Funny a vegetable tastes lovely made into pies or crumbles and eaten with cream or custard or ice cream!

  5. Hello Margaret, We have another dairy door in our little patch of woodland, that one is always ajar and is a great one for using as the basis for a story! My grandchildren find them magical, so do I.
We start eating rhubarb very enthusiastically, but this particular crown is such a heavy and prolonged cropper that we give away great bundles of it. No doubt I shall also end up making rhubarb and custard cake, as well as crumbles, which my husband loves.
    Enjoy your weekend.
Congratulations on your 100th post! We have guests right now, including our three year old grandson and his eleven week old brother. The house noisy and full of - energy! I am saving your post to read, enjoy, and wallow in nostalgia when things are quiet once again.

    1. Hello Bill, The birdsong levels around here have increased and I heard a woodpecker tapping at a tree the other day. I always used to think that autumn was my favourite time of year but I think it may now be spring. I'm glad you mentioned bird houses, one or two of ours could do with a little attention.

  7. Love the photos of your garden, Elaine!
I like the fisherman statue too. She looks happy.

Sounds so lovely to have your family to weekend! Enjoy!

Thanks for your visit. I am glad you like the Pearl Jam vídeo.
As I like so much to see surf on tv, principally in Hawaii, I love the music playing with Ukulele.

    1. Hello Sonia, A small local church was hosting a Ukulele band concert, just before Christmas, they have an extremely good reputation and I was very keen to attend - then I became ill and missed the event! So I very much enjoyed the video, thank you for posting it.

In this country we are grateful for glimpses of blue sky and a little sunshine, it has a very positive affect on mood and perception! The garden has even more early flowers appearing now and, although we have a way to go yet, it does feel as though spring is not too far away and life is filled with possibilities.
Thank you for your kind comments about my kitchen. It is the heart of our home and is normally busy with family and friends, not forgetting the pets, too.

    1. Hello Prunella, The rhubarb is coming on a treat, not quite enough for a pie yet but it won't be long.
