Accident & Arnica

I had a really nice day - nothing special, but one of those days where I was able to get some small projects finished, lists finalised, bits and bobs.  I was content.      The grandchildren enjoyed their tea, granddaughter happily telling me how her class had sung 'Little Donkey' at the local church, her older brother (much more of an introvert) surprising me by saying that he had done a reading in church, one of the girls had dropped out and he had volunteered to do it instead!

Then, about an hour ago, I was just coming through to settle down to read a few blogs, when  I found myself slipping, falling crash on my coccyx, my legs caught under my armchair, with the standard lamp crashing down on top of me.

I now have the achiest backside in the world, no doubt it will be black and blue soon, my shin is purple from what was almost a cut, and I am shaken.       What did I slip on?   I haven't a clue.

I am supposed to go out to my free OAP Christmas Dinner, tomorrow - I reckon that I will look the ideal candidate.  I won't be walking in briskly, which is my normal pace, it will definitely be a hobble.

Just as well we ordered an extra jar of arnica gel the other day.   I am definitely going to need it.

You will be pleased to know that there will not be any photographs of my injuries!

    1. Based on how my shin looks, they are spectacular. I have no wish to see the REALLY good ones on my rear!

  2. Oh no! Poor you. I hope you'll be OK. It sounds like it will be sore.
We had Little Donkey yesterday too and well done for your grandson reading in church. It would have been one of my biggest fears at a young age. X

    1. Mine, too, Jules! Goodness knows where that came from, but I am so proud of him. I am aching and sore, but keeping mobile!

  3. That sounds like a nasty fall and it is always worse when it is unexpected. Hope you enjoy your Christmas meal and the Arnica gel relieves the worst of the bruising.

    1. It was rather a shock - as all accidents are, of course. I ache in more places today, but I still managed to get the dog walked. Lunch at the pub is still on!

  4. Cat under foot maybe? I use Arnica too on my thumbs and a foot pain I've been experiencing. I hope it does the trick for you.

    1. It does seem to help, Marcia. No, the cats were not to blame, they ran off terrified, poor things.

    1. I am thankful that I have a reasonably well padded 'sit-upon' Joanne. I am thankful that it was nowhere near as bad as your accident. I hope you have a marvellous holiday.

    1. Ah, if only! I blame the socks I was wearing, in lieu of anything else.

  7. Oh dear. I am sorry - I know just how you feel. You told me to get checked by a doctor and I wonder whether you have been as well. I hope you heal quickly.

    1. Thank you, Susan. I feel stiff and sore, a bit headachy, but otherwise fine. I hope your aches and pains are receding.

  8. Gosh I hate falls... Hope you haven't jarred anything too terribly! It seems that the day after an unexpected fall, the body hurts in places that we weren't sure existed!!!... Whenever I fall, I am so embarrassed that I try to get up very quickly, and while I'm still trying to get up I know I must look like a giraffe on an oil slick.. It just must be terribly entertaining for onlookers'... Lol!!!!

    1. Hello wyomingheart, I'll survive! Many years ago, I slipped in the road on my way back to my car - I leapt into the car (highly embarrassed) thanked concerned witnesses and then drove home - only to discover three days later that I had broken my ankle. That old embarrassment factor has a lot to answer for!!

    1. Hello Kate, And that was it, thin air! One moment you are up, the next minute the world goes into slow motion and the floor comes up to meet you! I hope all is well with you.

  12. Thank you for not sharing the pictures of the bruises!

Seriously though, hope it is just bruises and you are not too uncomfortable over Christmas.
    Enjoy that meal

    1. Hello Sue, No, the world is not ready for shocks like that! My neck aches today, as well as my tail bone, I suppose it is a bit like whiplash. Never mind, it will pass - but thank goodness for arnica.

    1. Hello Rosie, At least no bones were broken, and for that I am thankful. My aches and pains will pass, I do wonder whether they will get me out of doing the washing up on Christmas Day, though!

  14. I hope your discomfort doesn't last long. These things happen but that doesn't mean they should happen to you (or me). Take it steady now.

    1. Hello Valerie, It was a shocker! One minute all was well in my little world, the next minute everything came crashing down around me - I must learn to take things more slowly, stop dashing about!

  15. Drat - just knocked a hot key and lost my posting. I hope you aren't too shaken up from the fall, but I know how landing heavily is bound to do just that. Hoping that the arnica helps. As a dash-abouter you have my sympathies - I keep nearly putting my foot on a passing cat here.

    1. Just found this - sorry! As you know, it is really difficult slowing down. Cats do have a knack of getting in the way, but I can't blame them this time. They were both toasting themselves in the hearth - Sparky dashed and hid behind an armchair in the kitchen, Millie ran the length of the kitchen, wetting herself, and the floor as she went... Husband had to sort that lot out, I was busy with the arnica!

  16. At least you had a good day ahead of the fall. Hope the arnica helps, I sometimes use the gel and the under the tongue tablets.

    1. Hello hart, It really does seem to work some magic. I haven't tried the tablets, but the gel certainly helps.

  17. Ouch, I hope you are feeling better tomorrow.
But I think you might be so sore, that you surely can't do any strenuous activities during Christmas...

    1. Hello Ulvmor, I hope you are feeling a bit better today. Somehow, I think I will still be called upon to do the cooking on Christmas day - they will let me off the washing up though! ;)

  18. I am ashamed to say, the vision of you wearing the standard lamp shade as a titfer did make me chuckle. The next was the vision of you two off to the OAP luncheon was a tad hard to imagine, what with you both being so young’n’all! The only small consolation was at least you looked the part hobbling in! I then settled down to read the next instalment, not strictly true as I read the last one first as it were!?! I am now off to comment on that... see you there...

    1. Hello Lettice, Would that I had worn the lamp shade to the meal, I was wan and pale, to say the least. They didn't need to ask for my ID...

I hope all is well, proceeding as quickly as can reasonably be expected - meanwhile, enjoy those sea breezes and the company of those wonderful friends at your watering hole. x
