The Dog Still Needs to be Walked...

...even on a rainy day.    I find that the best way to tackle it is head-on.   Pull on the Wellington boots, jacket with hood and then set about persuading the dog that he will enjoy himself, once he gets out in the rain.

It wasn't heavy rain, but it was wet!   The trees ensured that it continued to fall, long after it had stopped.

I must be making progress though.  I saw Toby walk right through a small puddle - something which would have been unthinkable just a few months ago.       This is one of the spots which he has difficulty passing through, luckily a tractor came along at the same time, we had to squeeze between the edge of the lane and the ditch, so he was distracted by worrying about that.

Onward, to the watermill - time for Toby to have a sniff and for me to take a couple of snaps.

Ian, these are for you.

Remember the old play area - The Enchanted Forest, I think it was called - well this is how it looks now.   All those dreadful fibre-glass models have been removed, a lot of work has been done to build across the stream and the whole has been cleared of trees.

A mammoth amount of work but now they have a second car park.   They no longer have to rent that piece of boggy field, or close at 4pm, even on a fine evening.

Remember this?   Gone.   Sold on, I believe.

Cow Parsley blocking  the 'official' entrance to Owl Wood.

Funny to think that just a few weeks ago the Owl People were able to open the gate to bring their equipment inside.

May warmth has set everything growing.

The rain dried up and I had some errands to run in the village.      Afterwards I walked down the grassy lane into the Village Green - and goodness, is it green.    As usual, the mowing has been done to create a few pathways, leaving the rest of the grass long.

A lovely big space, such a shame that it is so well hidden that people rarely visit.

As you can see, apart from at the watermill, nothing much has changed around here.   Life in Lincolnshire rumbles on in a very enjoyable fashion.

The new wisteria is in full flower, decorating the courtyard side of the house beautifully, even the main wall and gateway arch is finally seeing some blooms.

Have you and The Cardinal weighed anchor and found somewhere away from all the holiday makers yet?

  1. Your posts are always delightful. All that rain makes mud and puddles but the trees and flowers just love it. Everything has grown so much. Lucky Toby is getting used to the water and you can walk through those fields and take photos for us.

  2. I'm wondering with all that green whether ticks are a problem there? Just read an article about how tick-borne illnesses are on the rise here in US. My daughter had a bite recently and had the tick identified. Now she needs a blood test to see if she's contracted Lyme disease as the tick was a deer tick- carrier of that.

    1. I have the same question. Ticks over there?

But I didn't want to ask it, because I may have done so before. :-( And didn't look for the answer.

      So thank you for asking!!!!!

      :-)

    2. Marcia, I hope your daughter is found to be clear of Lyme disease.

Wisps of words - Ticks yes, but not where we normally walk.

  3. We've never had one, but a dog, needing to be walked, must be one of the best things, about owning a dog. Keeps one mobile!

Btw, we could not have a dog, because our daughter is very, very allergic. Of course, one of her brothers wanted to give her away, and replace her with a dog. But his dog ownership had to wait, until he grew up. ,-)

Oh the places you and he, can walk!!!!! Have you pictured those places, where he doesn't like to walk? May not be much there now, I suppose.

Love it, that the village green is not totally mowed. Pathways yes, but much left to nature. Wonderful!!!!!

What do you have to do, to go through the gate to Owl Wood??? Beat your way through? ,-)))))

    1. Wisps of words, that gate is just the main gate, we use the gate through from our vegetable garden.

  4. So many questions, so little time... Toby is this Toby Two?
Does Bro and The Cardinal ever comment on this means of blogsville or since his defection, not unlike the Skirpals, is this the old order of things, so never deigns to comment? Maybe the mobile or canal line as opposed to land line? I am so sorry he has gone over to the other side, only just getting a handle on this means of communication let alone his new fangled howsyourfather.

    1. Hello Lettice, Toby Too came with the name 'Toby' we added the 'Too' bit to avoid confusion, though we forget to use it these days.
Ian and I communicate by email, telephone, carrier pigeon, and smoke signals... ;)

  5. That silliness with the "play area" is much improved - no more of those gruesome faces in the twilight or in car headlights! Not so much (not so much as I would like) out of the way this weekend, just somewhere less inconvenient to do some jobs (extra solar panel, new aerials and wotnots). Just one boat nearby but I am sure that will change soon... we have the Saturday morning holiday boat rush to come. The hire companies tell them thatthey can get to Belgium and back in seven days, or something. ;-)

    1. Hi Ian, They were scary! I hope your stretch of the canal is peaceful and calm, no Loch Ness Monsters, giant-sized carp or irritating humans. Love from Lincs. xxx
