Running Away from Home

By now most of the work should have been completed.

We have already had the whole house open to the heating engineers for three days now, no room a sanctuary,  inner doors and outer doors propped open to facilitate their dashing about with wet vacuum cleaners, blow torches and serious faces.

My only function has been to make teas and keep the dog calm and out of the way - where?

The system is losing pressure, it moans like an elephant enduring the agonies of a protracted  breech-presentation labour and delivery.        In short, we have a problem,  somewhere in the system, possibly under the floorboards, possibly not.

The old hen house, with cheerful flower, is looking increasingly attractive.    A des res, hideaway, for one human  plus dog, perhaps.   We'll see how today goes.

I am abandoning husband, the workmen, the house and labouring elephant,  the poor stressed dog.

Heading for the bright lights of Lincoln, with my daughter and two of my grandchildren.

ps The dog will be fine, son no. 2 is coming along today, Toby dog loves him almost as much as he loves me.

    1. Thank you, Marcia. It was cold but sunny and we left just before the rain started.

  4. Excellent idea for both you and Toby - I don't think I could stand all that chaos.

    1. He is much happier today, his bed and water bowl are back where they should be, no workmen around. Happy boy.

  5. My first thought....what about the dog????

    But you have this covered!!!

    Enjoy your break!!!

Oh and btw, remember the "Visitor" to Lincoln? Well, the person _in_ Lincoln, has proved a "dud." So she broke up with him. Not easy, but best to "see the writing on the wall."

I'm very sorry to hear that it didn't work out, but I hope that she enjoyed her visit to Lincoln, nevertheless.

    1. Thank you. The visit to Lincoln was great fun - there was a festival going on, which we hadn't heard about.

  7. A quick escape is exactly what you need! Whenever I have workmen in my home, the cats and dog and I go stir crazy. The banging is the worst of it. However I am always delighted with the end result. Best wishes!

    1. Hello Billie, These things are tedious and involve a lot of mess and patience but, as you say, worth it in the end. The cats just go off in a huff - then when all is quiet they come back in and demand food, lots of it.

  8. Yes, a sensible escape. There are enough men about, even to brew tea.

    1. Lincoln was exactly what I needed! Unfortunately the house was in even more of a mess than I had expected - a quick change into work clothes, then hours of sweeping, clearing, mopping, scrubbing and wiping and that was just to get rid of the worst of it. The visit to Lincoln meant that I was able to take it in my stride!!
