This Little Piggy

Our youngest grandchild was a little very shy.       His shyness eventually crumbled away because he adores rhymes and songs, with the occasional tickle thrown in for good measure.      'This Little Piggy' went down well and so did 'Round and Round the Garden Like a Teddy Bear', but his favourite was 'Horsey, Horsey, don't you stop..'.

His older brother had no shyness, just a desperate need to prove to his two older cousins that he was as big and as strong as they are, except when it came to nettle stings, and he was awfully good at finding stinging nettles.   Ouch!

We had three days of fun and mischief with the grandchildren.    I have cooked lots of meals, poured countless teas and coffees, played, chatted and talked myself to a standstill.

Yesterday we were down to just two grandchildren, the local ones, while their parents went back to school.

They are both good walkers, so I took them out for a couple of decent walks.   We explored places new to them, picked elderberries, and watched the river for signs of trout.     It was a gentle day, a transition between full summer holiday mode and the new school term.

This old horsey had better get a move on, the grandchildren will be -

in half an hour, I need to get rattling some pans and cooking a meal for them.

    1. New school uniforms and shoes, neat hair and nails, they looked the part. The morning bus stops right by the driveway gates and they got on board very happily - I was never like that!

  2. Beautiful new Autumn Header!!!!!

If you ever want to have your Header picture, placed in the center of the Header spot, I can give you the "magic letters," to make it so. ,-)

The differences in 'Grands.' Always interesting.

And the school year, begins again. Here it doesn't start for a couple of more days. But the time comes, rapidly.

    Welcome Autumn hugs..

    1. That would be lovely, thank you.

Those differences are interesting, especially when two are city born and raised, the other two are country children with all the delights of tree climbing and outdoor games. I live in hope that the city ones will learn to enjoy the freedom of Owl Wood and the slower pace of things here.

The trees are definitely showing signs of autumn, leaves are changing colour and the hedgerows are bejewelled with berries. I hope Autumnal colours and cooler weather are heading your way, Luna.

  3. I'm glad you had a good time because it would be a nightmare for me having all those grandkids around, lucky we have none at the moment and the way my lads go does not seem likely. At least yours had a good time

    1. It was great fun but very tiring. I hope Gerard is home again now and that you are finding some time to relax and recover.

  7. Such fun and games. My two loved it when I bought a farm in Devon and they had the freedom to build tree houses, swings from the trees and embrace the countryside. Unfortunately being so far away, I dont get to see my two grand children very often, so enjoy while you can. xcx

    1. It sounds like your children had the most wonderful countryside version of Swallows and Amazons! Wonderful! That is what we offer here, just on a rather smaller scale, there is no limit to their imagination, once you get them outside and away from electronic nonsense.

  8. How lovely for them to spend time with you, building such good memories for when they are older and have grands of their own. I love the illustrations!

    1. Those lovely illustrations come from an American recipe book - I can't honestly say that I have used any of the recipes, only the illustrations!
