This beautiful old horse is about to go away on his holidays.
He was never mine, he belongs to Oscar.
Unfortunately Oscar isn't too well right now
and the family have decided that Benedict should be
sent on holiday for a while.
I'll miss him and my twice-daily visits to him,
the wonderful way he greets me, frisks my pockets
and head butts me in affection
as I tell him what a fine and handsome horse he is.
He will miss the pony nuts, carrots, apple and polo mints.
I love you, Benedict.
Come back safe and sound in the Spring.

and preparing to put a brave face on for the grandchildren,
especially Merry, who loves him almost as much as I do.)

Sad this.
ReplyDeleteI am very sad about it. I went up to visit him, before daylight, this morning because I didn't want to miss out on seeing him for one last time. As you can imagine, he got a special feed and a lot of hugs. Soon I must pluck up the courage to check on his paddock - half in the hope that they may have forgotten to collect him.x
DeleteLove him. You'll all be counting the days until he comes back in the Spring.
ReplyDeleteHello Molly, When I was a child, I had a push-a-long horse, Neddy, Benedict has since taken his place in my heart. I love everything about him, even mucking out the stable and cleaning out his water trough. Grown quitte fond of old Oscar, too...I'm popping into the hospital again tomorrow, to drop off his parcels and mail.x
