Florence, after the Angst

Yesterday was another busy day.

This morning I had to smile when I got up and found Florence had fallen asleep, propped up by my work basket, her head cushioned by a ball of wool.   Quite when that happened, I don't know, but she does look very cute.     I half hoped to find that she had been busy finishing off my fairies, but no.   Perhaps she had been out dancing or partying.

Months of meetings, note-taking, typing, finding suitable photographs and a smidgeon of hard work have all paid off.      Yesterday I collected the printed booklets and, on the way home,  dropped a copy, plus the invoice,  off at the local 'squire's' house - he will pay the bill on behalf of the local parish council.

Next job was to collect Toby and take a walk along to visit Miss Read and hand her the finished version of her booklet.

So that is it, warts and all.    Now I can concentrate on getting a few more bits finished for the bazaar, and then the rest of the time will be my own - ha! as if.

My granddaughter was 'tidying' my doll dressing fabrics yesterday, and discovered the remnants of a skirt which used to be hers...  It was a lace and silk concoction, a party skirt, which she had long grown out of.   For a moment her emotions were poised, they could have gone either way, luckily I had the dressed fairy to hand, she could see how the fabric had been dyed a soft pink and then embellished with bits and pieces.   It got her stamp of approval.   Thank goodness.

Out in the front car park, construction work continues.

Wood Henge is being built.    It is a bit further along than this now, the apex roof line is beginning to take shape, where just the uprights have protruded for the last couple of months.     Local wood being used to make an open-fronted garage/log store.

I'm not sure quite how much work will be done on it today, the winds may have dropped, but heavy rain is forecast.     Not that it will bother me, my work is indoors.    A bit of housework and then a lot of sewing, maybe watch an old film.    Indoors things - apart from dog walks, of course.

How about you?

  1. That was such a windy day yesterday! I hope we are going to see more photos of your fairies? Is Florence one of your dolls?

    1. It was wild - but I still managed to get a six mile dog walk done, helped in one direction, but it was a real puff in the other. Today is just wet and gloomy.

I found Florence stuffed into a sack of items which my granddaughter had sorted out to be donated to a jumble sale. I felt sorry for her. She's a bit of a chatterbox but, other than that, she fits in quite well.

  2. Your work table reminds me of my mother's, with little bottles of beads and bits of lace and trim, and, especially, things balanced on spools.
What is to become of Mrs. Reed's book?

    1. No matter how hard I try to keep that little table clear, it gets into a mess, Joanne. Mr real work table is in another part of the house and, since that year when we had the flea infestation(!) the cats and Toby are not allowed beyond the kitchen door. They get lonely, so I decamp to the small table and work with them around me. Not so convenient for me, but it keeps them happy.

The little booklet will be sold (purely to cover printing costs) locally and in the manor house museum in our market town.

  3. That picture of Florence is perfect, along with the "Woman At Home" book, to her left!!! Simply perfect! Please print it out and hang it, somewhere near where you do your crafting. :-))))))))

Oh oh, when a wee one sees some article of clothing, which used to be hers. Breath holding time. ,-) But you handled it perfectly.

It does go to show, how the human "It's mine!" gene, is quite inbred, doesn't it? Had one grand child, who took it to ridiculous lengths. And her parents did not try to ween her out of it. -sighhhhhhhh- But thankfully, that part of the family, was living far away, at that time.

Hooray for the completion!!!! Did you at least pop open a bottle of "bubblie", for the occasion? Even if you didn't drink any????? :-)))

And I love the line: "...the local 'squire's' house - he will pay the bill on behalf of the local parish council." Sounds just like "Midsomer Murders." In a "background"-sort-way, I mean. ,-)))))

Wood Henge is coming along! Since it will be used to store wood and park cars, is it rather close, to a door into the house?

    1. I must admit that I felt like celebrating with a glass of fizz - but as I didn't want to pay the price of that moment of madness with a migraine, I settled for tea and a chocolate biscuit, much more mundane, but I felt happy!

Don't worry about the 'squire', the only bill is for printing costs (my time was free) and he holds the purse strings (cheque book) for the parish council! The printer produced the goods quickly (after all the initial...problems) so I thought he deserved to be paid promptly. His wife and I have driven the project along, so she is making sure the cheque gets sent quickly.

The garage is quite a long way from any of the house doors, alas! Can't make life too easy for ourselves!

    1. No, I'm not either, but she just has something which made me want to rescue her, Margaret.

I still read your blog posts, but I don't leave comments because there seems to be a problem, I can see other people's email addresses in the comments box... That being so, I don't really want to put mine on display and invite spam. So, for the time being, I continue to read, but don't stop to chat.

  5. Florence is adorable. I love to see sewing detritis spread across a work area - the sign of a busy mind and busy fingers.

I bet you are relieved now that Miss Read is in print and well done to the Squire for stumping up for it too.

I hope that Woodhenge will soon be completed - we have had a calm sunny day today. Let's hope we have a few more like this to cheer us up again and finish those outside jobs.

    1. It is a joy to be playing about with colours, textures, glitter and sparkly bits for the party girls, Jennie. Soon I will be leaving the pretty bits behind and moving onto making my 'everyday' angels, I dress them in tweeds, etc. I like to have variety, keeps me entertained while I make them.

The relief of knowing that the booklet has been completed and printed was immense. The only expense is for printing, so it can be sold at cost (my toil was for free). It will then become self-funding, if necessary. Miss Read is happy and wants quite a few copies for her extended family, I think she is chuffed!

    1. The rain is still falling here, Bill. Staying indoors and having a good read sounds like a perfect way to spend a rainy day. I think that Toby would like to have that option, he hates getting his feet wet, which makes walks quite interesting!

  7. What a joy to see your work table all cluttered and loved. We went to our neighbours for lunch and then sat with our feet up in front of the stove with a book. Bliss!

    1. It was a relief to finally walk away from it, Susan. Miss Read is happy, and that is the main thing. It is nice to indulge in a little sewing, and even the occasional bit of tiny knitting, using toothpicks. Madness.

    1. It was an exceptionally happy dance!!
Florence is warming her feet on the radiator, with a look of blissful contentment on her face - she flops around at will yet always manages to look characterful. I still don't understand why my granddaughter didn't take to her! Apologies, I have only just found this comment in 'awaiting moderation' - hence the delay.x
