Falling into a Sketch

I found a stash of old recipe books in a charity shop today
they cost the princely sum of £1.50 for all four.
Treasure!

Clutching some coins of the realm in my hot little hand
I went to the till.
The woman on duty was the manageress.

She has a tumble of long blonde hair and
was clasping her mobile phone to her ear,
chatting with great animation,
while examining the nails on her spare hand.

I waited
noting, noting as I did so,
the very smart paint job on them.
Something like these...

After a few moments she looked up and said
"Bear with, bear with..."

and I suddenly felt as though I had tumbled into a sketch.
Remember this, from Miranda?

I waited, the books were too good to leave behind
besides,
it had tickled my sense of humour
to find that someone really does use that phrase.

  1. Hmmm, this is the 4th try, to leave a comment here. Now it is a quest! ,-)

    Enjoyed the click-able link.

Happy that you too, want to leave, "the news" out of blogging.

When I clicked on Preview, before... My comment disappeared.

And when I clicked on Publish, it did too. -chuckle-

And I can't see that you have Comment Moderation on...

    Onward, to my Quest!

    I will click Publish again!

    2. Hello wisps of words! Blogger has been doing all manner of strange things to comments just recently, I sometimes visit a blog, tap out a comment, click publish and find the link has broken and all my 'insightful and delightful' (who am I kidding?) words have been lost forever!! So then I write a much shorter one and it posts. Other people have been writing about similar experiences. I'm glad you enjoyed the link.

    1. Hi Deb, It initially annoyed me, but I am glad I waited because it became one of those silly and funny experiences which give you a chuckle - and some good books for very little money! I wonder if she had been watching re-runs of 'Miranda'!

  3. Think I would have been getting grumpy with her or taking a photo of her nails. Wonder what she would have made of the video sound like a good comparison. I saw an odd sight yesterday, a young lady with a puchchair reading a book not looking at a phone. She turned off to the hall where the library was. Ps I had problems posting this morning earlier but I put it down to useing a tablet

    1. Blogger does seem a bit strange at the moment, Bill. Lucky to still have a library, these days. Library services seem to be squeezed and slashed, the number of books reduced. Hurrah for that young woman (even though it doesn't sound like the safest bit of multi-tasking!)

  4. I loved reading your blog - very much a case of grin and bear it. At least you came home with your recipe books and it made a smashing blog post.

    1. Thank you, Molly. The books are making really interesting reading, well worth the wait. I still can't help having a smile about the woman using that phrase, I imagine my face was a 'picture'!
